3 DIY Beauty Treatments That Really Work!

3 DIY Beauty Treatments That Really Work!

I love Sundays.

They are my favorite day of the week. Usually on a Sunday, I’ll aim to get to the farmer’s market, the beach for a walk, and yoga.

My perfect Sunday also includes doing some cooking for the week, and a DIY beauty treatment, be it a sea salt bath, or a facial or something like that.

My go-to is usually what we call “The Deep Cleanser” which is bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar facemask that gives your skin a very deep cleaning by drawing toxins out from deep within.

Here’s the recipe:

  • Use ½ cup bentonite clay. I like this one from Aztec Beauty.
  • Mix it with 1/8 of a cup of raw apple cider vinegar.
  • Make it into a paste and apply to clean skin.

Only leave this mask on for 10-15 minutes until the clay dries. If you leave it on too long, your face will get very red and it might get irritated.

A great alternative just as good as clay is Healthforce’s Zeolite which also binds to toxins and pulls them out.

Both can double for a detox bath as well. I’d suggest doubling the amount of vinegar if you are going to soak your bones in a bath with the goal of detoxification. This is a great idea for rashes, itchy skin, or if you are on an actual cleanse.

But back to the facials!

A great follow up to that is a strawberry yogurt treatment.

We call this “The Glow Treatment”.

This one is so easy and you can make a little batch that will last you for 3 treatments.

All you have to do is blend up:

  • 10 organic strawberries
  • ½ cup organic plain, full fat yogurt
  • the juice of ¼ of a lemon.

Apply to your face and let sit for 20 minutes. When you wipe this off, your face should feel super soft and supple.

Good food is medicine for our bodies and also for our skin. Strawberry extracts are often used in many beauty products. The vitamin C they contain can prevent damage caused by free radicals and lighten sun damage.

The yogurt protein and probiotics will have long-lasting softening and revitalizing effects on the skin.

And last but not least, what woman wouldn’t love longer, thicker lashes naturally?

Well, lavender oil is your key to them (who needs Latisse?).

Adding 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil to a tube of mascara will stimulate both eyelash growth and thickening within 2-3 weeks of use.

You may have noticed that lavender is in a lot of hair growth products. It’s also touted as a good remedy for alopecia (hair loss connected to autoimmunity).

A study by a group of dermatologists in Scotland showed that 44 percent of alopecia patients who were tested experienced new hair growth when they massaged their scalp daily with lavender and other essential oils for seven months. Seven months can seem like a long time, but if you just get used to putting a few drops of lavender essential oil in your shampoo bottle whenever you buy a new one, it will soon become an easy routine.

If you are not into homemade treatments, but still want to treat yourself, by all means, do so. We are all about self-care at TWJ.

I love Mychelle’s Apple Brightening Peel and often use that when I’m not in the mood to mix up my own conconction. The Alba Papaya Enzyme Face Mask is great too.

If your bathroom is littered with the regular brands of cosmetics and products like Dove, Oil of Olay, and the likes, then you must watch and read the blogs below to make healthy switches that could make a huge difference to your endocrine and immune health as time goes on.

Have a great day!
