Today, we talk about 3 ways to hack your nutrition to get exponential health benefits.
The coolest part is that each takes only about 5 seconds to implement so anyone can do these and experience the benefits.
#1: Move over coconut oil. Here come MCTs.
I will forever use and love coconut oil for everything from cooking to lotion to shaving cream to lip gloss. But for your am coffee, we’ve got an even better rocket fuel for your brain and metabolism.
Meet the magical substance that is MCT oil. MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides. It is a concentrated form of fat that is about 6x stronger than coconut oil when it comes to feeding your brain.
Ketones are substances that are made when the body breaks down fat for energy and they are the preferred source of fuel for the brain to use because they are a more efficient fat. Hence, one of the reasons, MCT will give you a shot of mental clarity and who doesn’t need that?
Breast milk actually contains a lot of MCTs to help with baby’s brain function as well as to build their immune system so it stands to reason, you are getting those very same benefits.
There is also no doubt that MCT oil boost body composition and so if you are into burning fat and building muscle, this is your new best friend to that in a healthful way.
And because digestion is the cornerstone and foundation of our health, we must talk about how efficient the body is at digesting these MCTs. The reason is MCTs don’t require bile salts for digestion, which makes them easy on the liver and gallbladder. A fat that can pass from the small intestine into the blood stream without having to be modifying the way other (long-chain) fats must be.
Are you convinced to run out and get your MCT oil, yet? I sure hope so!
High quality gelatin or collagen (let’s use those two terms interchangeably here) is such an easy food to add to your daily regimen with mind-blowing benefits.
I recommend this on every pre-natal plan but also to most everyone in general as a super food to consume weekly if not daily.
Here are just a few of the amazing health benefits of using this food as your medicine:
Need a recipe to get this powerhouse into your diet?
The ONLY caveat I would add here (and I maybe see this in 1 out of 500 people) is that collagen/gelatin is very high in the amino acid glycine. That is normally a very good thing as glycine is also an inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitter in the brain and consuming it as an amino acid naturally helps balance brain chemistry and reduce anxiety unless you already have very high levels of glycine (again, it’s rare) in which case, this food could cause anxiety. You would know that after consuming it twice so no need to run out for an expensive lab test.
When talking about MCT and collagen, my favorite brand for quality is Bulletproof because their founder, Dave Asprey goes to every extreme with sourcing the highest quality ingredients.
3: Make your summertime lemonade tangy
Adding a splash of apple cider vinegar (must be raw so that it contains active enzymes) to your lemon water or lemonade will kick sugar cravings to the curb, help your liver detoxify, and allow your body to make more of its own hydrochloric acid to improve digestion. It will also give you an alkaline boost to slash inflammation and refresh your energy.
The recipe is so easy!
I make a big pitcher of this and keep it in the fridge in the summer.
